Green Business Awards

このブログでも何度が紹介してきたSustainable Sites Initiativeが、このたびGreen Business Awardsを受賞したとのことです。

Few organizations have the impact of a U.S. Green Building Council, which transformed green building around the globe. Undaunted, the Sustainable Sites Initiative means to follow in those considerably large footsteps.

A coalition of three organizations, the Sustainable Sites Initiative is a national endeavor to create the first rating system for eco-friendly landscaping projects — or basically a new version of the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for green, open spaces. Led by the Austin, Texas-based Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and two D.C.-based groups, American Society of Landscape Architects and U.S. Botanic Garden, the initiative calls for a final draft of the new standards in November, when the groups will solicit pilot projects.

By 2011, the groups hope to incorporate the standards into LEED, making a deeper mark on architects, engineers, designers, curators, landscape contractors, maintenance workers, planners and even homeowners as they move soil for new parks, gardens, yards, easements and other open spaces in the most environmentally harmless way.
